Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was raised in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and later attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned a bachelor of science with a focus in economics in 2003. Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was commissioned on 23 May 2003, attended TBS and the Ground Supply Officer Course and was assigned to MACG-38, MACS-1 Yuma, Arizona.
While assigned to MACS-1 (2004-2007) Lieutenant Colonel Peterson served as the squadron supply officer where he led 23 Marines, managed 13 different fiscal accounts and 19 Consolidated Memorandum Receipts valued at over $100M. While assigned to MACS-1, Lieutenant Colonel Peterson twice served as a provisional rifle platoon commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his first deployment Lieutenant Colonel Peterson and his platoon of 67 Marines were charged with providing perimeter security for the largest coalition air base in Iraq. On his second deployment Lieutenant Colonel Peterson’s 45-Marine platoon was tasked with mounted combat patrols, route reconnaissance and tactical overwatch.
In 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was assigned to the 1st Marine Regiment as the Regimental Supply Officer and Assistant Logistics Officer. He led 41 Marines in providing food service, supply, maintenance management, ordnance, life support, facilities, ammunition and contracting in support of Regimental Combat Team 1 during a 13 month deployment in Fallujah and Ramadi Iraq.
In 2009 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was assigned to 1st Marine Division Staff as the Logistics Readiness Team Officer In Charge where he led 13 Marines in the Division G-4 and executed the Commanding General’s Readiness Inspection Program. He was charged with enforcing division supply and maintenance policies in support of 33 battalions that included 600 pieces of equipment valued at over $1B.
In 2010 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a MBA focused on Material Logistics Management.
In 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was assigned to the Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) as the Project Officer for the Combat Operations Center (COC) Variant (V)2-4 an Acquisition Category III Program. LtCol Peterson was charged with leading the sustainment of the legacy COC Family of Systems while simultaneously managing the cost, schedule and performance of a hardware and software refresh totaling over $90M.
In 2015 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was assigned to the United States Special Operations Command, Program Executive Office (PEO) Special Reconnaissance Surveillance and Exploitation serving as the Program Manager Technical Collection and Communication. Lieutenant Colonel Peterson was charged with managing the cost, schedule and performance requirements for four joint PoRs to include: Hostile Forces Tagging Tracking and Locating, Tactical Video Systems, Blue Force Tracking and Special Communications Enterprise totaling over $100M annually.
In 2018 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson transitioned to PEO Special Operation Forces (SOF) Warrior serving as the Acquisition Program Manager and System Acquisition Manager Precision Strike Systems. He was charged with leading the PSS Integrated Product Team for theater and national mission force ground and maritime domain requirements totaling over $65M in FY19.
In 2019 Lieutenant Colonel Peterson returned to MCSC and is currently serving as the Team Lead for Individual Training Systems at PM Training Systems.
Lieutenant Colonel Peterson’s personal decorations include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award.
